Much like the movie, the 2015 Cryptozoic Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug Autographs list is big. And it’s not just the number of signers. For the second film of the trilogy, Cryptozoic added two more styles of autographs. Sure, they’re both tough to find, but it adds some potent additional content.
The main autograph checklist has 27 cards. These have a similar design to that used for An Unexpected Journey. There’s also a lot of overlap in the signers, with a large focus on the Hobbits themselves.
A couple of cards don’t have a picture of the signer. That’s because they’re focused on their work behind the scenes. Andy Serkis is well known as Gollum. However, he signed here as a Second Unit Director. Given the actor’s popularity and strong resumé, this will likely be one of his most affordable autograph cards.
Top signers in the set include Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins) and Richard Armitage (Thorin). Also adding to the set’s intrigue is that many signers added inscriptions and even doodles to some of their cards.
