Jon Bernthal and Richard Armitage in First ‘PILGRIMAGE’ Images

The first images have been released of the Irish action thriller PILGRIMAGE, which has just wrapped production in Europe following seven weeks of shooting on the west coast of Ireland and the Ardennes region of Belgium.

Jon Bernthal (Fury, The Walking Dead) and Richard Armitage (The Hobbit, Hannibal) quest through medieval Ireland in the upcoming film PILGRIMAGE, while Tom Holland (The Impossible), who is in the running for the Marvel Spider-Man role, co-stars in the upcoming action release.

Supported by Bórd Scannán na hÉireann/ the Irish Film Board (IFB), the film from Irish director Brendan Muldowney centers on a group of monks who undertake a pilgrimage to transport their monastery’s holiest relic to Rome. When the true significance of the relic is revealed, the journey becomes much more treacherous, and the group’s faith and loyalty to one another are tested. Written by Jamie Hannigan, PILGRIMAGE benefits from a wealth of Irish talent including Director of Photography Tom Comerford.

PILGRIMAGE is one of a number of films to be produced this year with support from the IFB. DARK SONG, a Welsh-Irish co-production has just gone into production this week. Jim Sheridan’s THE SECRET SCRIPTURE starring Jack Reynor is now in post-production, as is LOVE & FRIENDSHIP, starring Kate Beckinsale and Chloe Sevigny.

Muldowney’s multi award winning LOVE ETERNAL won the Dublin Film Critics Circle Best Irish Feature Award at this year’s Dublin International Film Festival. After premiering at the Galway Film Fleadh last summer, it has screened at over sixty festivals worldwide, including the Sydney Film Festival, Sitges and Busan.

PILGRIMAGE is an Irish production, supported by Bórd Scannán na hÉireann/ the Irish Film Board and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, with funding from Belgium’s Wallimages and the Wallonia Cultural Fund. Conor Barry and John Keville of Dublin’s Savage Productions are producing the film with Benoit Roland of Belgium’s Wrong Men North.

XYZ Films is executive producing and will represent the film’s worldwide sales rights, co-representing the U.S. rights with WME. They will show footage and promos to buyers at the Toronto Film Festival and the American Film Market.
